On our way home from Bali, we made a stop in Hong Kong. Our tickets were cheaper if we stopped in Hong Kong and then continued our travel home the next day. To be honest I wasn’t excited about spending a day in Hong Kong. For some reason I didn’t envision Hong Kong as a ‘cool place to visit.” I am not a huge fan of big cities. Most big cities are very crowded and dirty. To my surprise Hong Kong was nothing like what I was expecting. It’s extremely clean – I didn’t see a single piece of trash. Everything was extremely well organized and not extremely crowded. We could easily have spent at least 3 days to explore the city.
We stayed at the JW Marriott Hong Kong which is located within walking distance of Central Hong Kong. We arrived from Bali to the Hong Kong International Airport around 9 PM. We arranged limo service from the hotel. You heard me mention these pick up arrangements a few times. They charge fees depending on the country/location. For example, the limo service from the airport to the hotel in Venice, Italy was expensive, but the one in Bali was relatively cheap. In our experience this service is so worth it – especially when traveling Internationally. It saves you so much time and headache. The following morning when we woke up (Saturday), we ate breakfast, and then went out to explore the city. The JW Marriott Hong Kong is modern hotel and staff is very polite.

As we exited the hotel, we got a little disoriented and lost. It took us a few minutes to orient ourselves and figure out where are we heading. First, we walked through Hong Kong Park (like Central Park in New York). The park is very beautiful and extremely well maintained. I was impressed, because I never imagined a park that beautiful in the middle of a city.

As we finished walking thru park we decided to do a Peak Tram Experience. We took one of the world’s oldest and most famous trams up to 396 meters (about 1,300 feet) above sea level to the peak of Hong Kong. Once you arrive at the tram terminial you must climb additional stairs that lead you to Sky Terrace 428 – a stunning 360-degree panoramic view across Hong Kong and the Bay of Hong Kong. That was an amazing view!

We had a little refreshment and then took the tram back down to the city park. On our way back to the hotel we walked through the Honk Kong City Park Aviary – a massive one, with exotic birds and tropical trees.

On our way back to the hotel, we walked thru an underground mall. We stopped by Zara- one of my favorite retailers and did some shopping. We arrived back to the hotel around 2:00 PM, relaxed and packed before checking out and taking the limo back to the airport. We departed to United States that evening at 7:50 PM. We spent less than a full day in Hong Kong, but it was defiantly enough time to get the feel of the city. We couza ld have defiantly used a few more days to explore the city, there is so much to do and see.
Hope you enjoyed this post!
